    Hi everybody !

Seiko, it’s a great news! We miss you here, as you can guess. And all is going well for me and my family. Fires and heat waves are in the opposite part of Canada. In Quebec, actually, it’s cool and sometimes cold.

Will be back from camping next Monday, friends !

    See you soon !

Good morning compadres, I hope all are well and full of beans today? I hope everyone is OK?

        Cat news from Lincoln UK.

Last night we slept like fallen trees in a forest.

Connie (the sick cat) takes her medicine well - on food - like ketchup on chips. She is bright and alert this morning but no toilet activity yet... That's a decider. She was hit by a car on Thursday and has a break in her spine just above the tail. As she has no sensation or movement in the tail, if she survives it will be amputated. In the meantime, we need litter tray action before 9am Monday.

Today Teresa goes to see her mum in Harrogate hospital and a meal with her brothers, in a restaurant chosen for it's special dullness: It's a Yorkshire thing.

So the blind man is looking after the broken cat.

        No more excitement please.

Our cat, Master Tinky, lost his tail in just that same way. He never complained, never said he missed it, never compared himself to other cats with longer tails (actually, most Japanese cats have stumpy tails anyway, so he fit right in). It also never slowed him down or seemed to effect his balance in any way. Just like humans, who can do without our tails!

Hi all, Yuki should be back with us tomorrow so I figured we could use one of his previous suggestions for the readings this week, besides I missed it the first time due to work commitments. (Lovely self interest there)

So I suggest we recite the Song of the Grass Roof Hermitage from Sekitō (Shih-t'ou) this week.

As there are many versions, here is the text I took on the site Daily Zen : https://www.dailyzen.com/journal/son...roof-hermitage

              Song of the Grass-Roof Hermitage

I've built a grass hut where there's nothing of value.
After eating, I relax and enjoy a nap.
When it was completed, fresh weeds appeared.
Now it's been lived in - covered by weeds.

The person in the hut lives here calmly,
Not stuck to inside, outside, or in between.
Places worldly people live, he doesn't live.
Realms worldly people love, he doesn't love.

Though the hut is small, it includes the entire world.
In ten square feet, an old man illumines forms and their nature.
A Great Vehicle bodhisattva trusts without doubt.
              The middling or lowly can't help wondering;
Will this hut perish or not?

Perishable or not, the original master is present,
not dwelling south or north, east or west.
Firmly based on steadiness, it can't be surpassed.
A shining window below the green pines --
Jade palaces or vermilion towers can't compare with it.

Just sitting with head covered, all things are at rest.
Thus, this mountain monk doesn't understand at all.
Living here he no longer works to get free.
Who would proudly arrange seats, trying to entice guests?

Turn around the light to shine within, then just return.
The vast inconceivable source can't be faced or turned away from.
Meet the ancestral teachers, be familiar with their instruction,
Bind grasses to build a hut, and don't give up.

Let go of hundreds of years and relax completely.
Open your hands and walk, innocent.
              Thousands of words, myriad interpretations,
Are only to free you from obstructions.
If you want to know the undying person in the hut,
Don't separate from this skin bag here and now.

              Shih-t'ou (700-790)

I hope that is ok for everyone,

              Gassho,

              Ryokudo.

I was talking the other day about my teeth falling out and I said it's fine as I shouldn't be so attached to them anyway . Maybe its the same for Connie?

As for a blind man watching over her.....well I've seen Zatoichi and he seems to be incredibly able to look after himself and his pals!

                        Hi everybody !

Good to be back among our group, even if only for one week !
My IPad stop working a while during zazen because it was too hot here, in my backyard. Some shades helps me to be back on time for the last part of our chanting, happily.
Song of the Grass-Roof Hermitage is a nice choice… I could read it in Japanese later this week if you want. « Kusayane no an no uta » is really a great zen text.

                        See you tomorrow !
