I used to live in McKinleyville and my Dad would often fish off Trinidad. Lovely place.

That must have been a great experience Shokai.
I googled this temple, if I found the right one it looks like an oasis of calm and antiquity in the middle of a modern city, I like that juxtaposition.

I'm surprised I didn't see something of this dry garden in the tor sites

          Shokoji garden.jpg
View of the Tsukubai in the dry garden at Shoukoji in Hiroshima, Japan. This view is from the side of Hiroshima Mountain facing the epi-canter of the Atomic blast which took place on August 6, 1945; approx. 3km away. At that time and for a short while thereafter, this area was completely desecrated and barren. And now, as can be seen, it enjoys a totally vibrant and spiritual atmosphere.

seen also at dry Zen Garden

Thank you for sharing this Shokai. I try to imagine that such a thing could have happened there and I can't.

Walking along the river Orwell at low tide this afternoon. Interesting fact about the river Orwell: George Orwell named himself after it.

So it was the first time I decided to do a day retreat and, despite my cat not having sat on my shrine for the last 9 months, I woke up to this....

He stayed for most of the day...

Ah that's lovely Eishuu - mine were around most of my day retreat too, attracted by the warmth I suspect!
