Re: Pre-Announcement: The Always Open Zazen Cafe

jundo -- today, saturday sit, the mebeam actually did work, but as ron described above, it was necessary to go to mebeam and sign in from there -- you weren't there, but were on ustream, as has often been the case --

apparently our link to mebeam is not working? -- i think that would be a treeleaf problem, not mebeam

unfortunately, when i went to mebeam this summer, they were not way helpful -- i will have a peek again at the forum and wiki, but i'm thinking this is a fix that would come from whoever does treeleaf's programing(skye?)

We finally got a new computer. It's a mac so I'm not sure how to do anything with it yet. Is there some trick to getting the built in camera image to work in the zen hall? :?:

Hi Ron! grats on the new computer!
I have a soft spot**for my macs o/ virus free ness (esp. in with the threat of this upcoming one :/)

            Any who You have to

select the camera to use in the video player.
If you Right click (or hold down CTRL + mouseclick) on the blue screen or w/e in the virtual zendo you should see a menu about Flash pop up and on that menu should be Settings. Click that.

you should then see a box that has a few tabs across the top. find the one that says video and click it. then there will be a drop down box (box with list of options)
One of the options there should be Built in iSight Camera (and few others there will be Firewire, USB etc etc..)

If you need any help give me a shout!

BTW which one did you get?

            Gassho, Shohei

**Note by soft spot i mean i have 26 different macs from 1984 to present representing the model line up from then til now... i catch them as folks are about to abondon them and they all work. I began computing on a mac first and I always enjoyed using them. Being a bit of a super nerd now, I just like computers that are working and working well regardless of brand... so far my macs have gave me the least amount of grief.

Wow, that was quick! Thanks Dirk.
It's an I-Mac, we just got it yesterday so I really haven't had much time to play with it yet. I'm not a "computer guy" so I'm not sure about any specifics. I'm sure I'll need lots of help so thanks in advance.

              Ron

p.s. I got the camera to work. Thanks again.

Yikes - that's some soft spot!

I used to have a Mac LC in the early 90's which I really liked, but primarily for compatibility reasons I've since gone to the dark side (i.e. Windoze).

Re: Pre-Announcement: The Always Open Zazen Cafe

hi guys -- i'm still out here, occassionally haunting the hall of zen, , hoping to see folks signed up on the schedule

just finished a 12 day work retreat(how i go for free) at the "spirit rock" meditation center, my first and last at this particular center -- i thought i was going to be doing a silent retreat, but turned out i was required to attend "teachings" by the visiting teacher, this "famous" tibetan guy, mingyur rinpoche (he has a book out, so that makes you a famous teacher) -- the manager explained that i needed to attend because the teacher was going to be "giving transmission" -- i freaked, since i didn't come to be transmitted to, but to clean the toilets -- seemed like a good teacher to me, but i didn't go there to get talked at for 5 hrs/day, i went to sit -- part of his teaching was about "resting in the nature of mind", which felt a lot like shikantaza to me(though i didn't tell him that, of course)

i have to say, that i don't see extreme differences between either of the 3 schools of buddhism, not in the most basic teachings -- you just have to choose the more esoteric versions, like dzogchen within tibetan, or the simple "sitting with what is" of some theravadan teachers (as opposed to the sterotype of "noting"), and of course, shikantaza within zen

but enough bullshit -- lets sit, sit, sit!

Very nice to see you again (been awhile)! Thanks for sharing that.
I liked your sage advice at the end! Received loud and clear 10-4 good Buddha!

                          Hey Bob,
I tried e-mailing you not too long ago-no luck. It's great to see you are back! I finally got a computer that allows me to use the zen hall (with a camera). Let me know if you want to try and start sitting together again.

All are EXACTLY the same! Except for the parts that are VERY different.

While, of course, there is that face without a lick of concern for "same" or "different"

Thanks for touching base, Bob. Keep on sittin!

thanks for the warm hellos, they're always appreciated

but the desert did swallow me up! -- well, i should be so lucky -- we leave in a couple weeks to return to lake ontario, where i can repair some hardware on my laptop -- i'm working now off a friends computer

the new email is : roky1141@gmail.com -- once i get the computer repaired, i'll set up the webcam and get back into the zen hall -- hope to see you, ron

                              thanks, jundo, for your insight

                              take care, bob

                                Hey Bob,

I'd say: Sit with it. You don't really have to listen. Just do Zazen. If someone asks you a question, answer.

Or, let the listening be your Zazen.

I'd join you in the hall, but my connection problems and such.
