    Re: The Sitting Hall

My youngest deployed his signature zazen RADAR this morning at 0550, so I missed my scheduled sitting. As I've been told, "This is also Ango." Going to try again tonight.

            Hey Chris,

Thanks for joining me in the zen-hall! It's getting awfully quiet in there again.

I've really been missing sitting with you guys.. I got the late shift at work and its really messing me up schedule wise. Fortunately it only lasts 2 weeks.

                Re: The Sitting Hall

Ron - good to sit with you the past couple of nights. Who says procrastination doesn't pay?

Shinko - Sorry about the night shift. I'll be in your shoes soon, as I work nights for a month starting at the end of November. Hooray for 0130/0500 sittings. :P

I'm going to try to sit the zazenkai live in the Hall tonight. May have to do some kinhin in the baby's room, but that's part of my experience right now.
Also, I'll be sitting in the style of Roky for these weekend mornings. My folks will be here for a visit, and I won't have access to the web cam.

                  Chris,
Always a pleasure. I really enjoy having company in the zen-hall, to me that's what Sangha is all about - sitting zazen together.

                    Re: The Sitting Hall

Peter -- good to see you in the Hall last night. I don't think my DSL connection can handle the live stream & the Hall simultaneously. It may not even be able to handle the live stream alone. heh. After being disconnected a couple of times with my cam running, I switched to icon.... which worked for a few minutes until I was disconnected from that, too.

Did anyone else have issues with the live stream stopping/starting?

In other news, my toddler was up at 0500 this morning. Zazen sabotage!

                      Re: The Sitting Hall

                      Hi Chris,

I gave up on running the live stream and the Hall a long time ago for exactly the same reason. Even without running the Hall I'll get drops (big exclamation points where the video and chat area are running) now and again...happened last night right towards the end.

I also wanted to mention to folks that the reason I'm almost never in the Hall isn't a lack of interest. My sits are almost never scheduled and rarely go as long as I might like, so I'm never able to get on the schedeuler and I'd lose time getting the computer all set up. I should do it anyway once and awhile, but I'd never want someone to get the impression I don't like to use the Hall...I certainly do.

                      Gassho,

I'm pretty much in the same boat, Dosho. I sit every day but sometimes morning, sometimes evening, sometimes at work . . . I rarely know more than an hour or so in advance. Plus my sitting room is in a part of the house that doesn't have decent wifi reception.

                          Re: The Sitting Hall

                          Hi everyone,

I've been pretty erratic in my schedule lately as well, so I don't appear on the actual schedule very often, but I have been trying to join the hall when I sit. Last night I was in the hall for the entire Zazenkai.

Very few technical troubles on my end, for one reason or another. I have DSL through a dedicated phone line, maybe that means my connection is uncommonly stable? (though not particularly fast) I would expect that even a brief interruption in service -- while probably un-noticable browsing the web or doing other things -- would knock you right out of a video chat room like ooVoo.

I wonder if there is any interest in stopping by the Meeting Hall after Zazenkai? I've got no chance of ever getting online for the Sunday afternoon "Tea Party," but if many of us are already online for live Zazenkai, it could be nice to share a cup afterward. Just a thought, not meant to lessen or take away from the established Tea Party chat.

how do we meet one another person just who ever is online and in the room is available or what?

                              Re: The Sitting Hall

Peter -- I would be interested in doing the Meeting Hall after zazenkai. My kids are down for bed by then, so it doesn't run into family time like the Tea Party.

Dosho -- Thanks for the feedback. I miss my cable internet, but had to give it up when I left city life. :|

Trevor -- The Meeting Hall (to my knowledge) is not very often used, and informal. The Sitting Hall has a schedule where you can enter your sitting times to coordinate with others if you'd like to sit together.

                              gassho,

I briefly visited the Sitting hall today to check my equipment and everything seemed to be working ok.
