I think you and I just want to argue not for the sake of learning but for the sake of arguing. That being so, we are best off dropping it.

It’s possible yes I’m going to go and ask Roshibot some different questions.

and you are sure that the answers have to be put here at treeleaf? For me, i could live without..

I would love to hear every detail of each answer here are Treeleaf but Jundo is against AI use at Treeleaf. [emoji3]

I really hope not that our sangha will be run by Ai. This practice needs human guidance and support.

I mean . That I hope not that Ai will get the upper hand over Soto Zen! These questions that arise during practice and its guidance need answers and guidance from a real person. If not, then in my opinion it has flown and does not convey a serious message. A robot will never fully replace a physical person in religion.

In this thread, we can discuss a bit ABOUT what is AI and chatbots ...

... but chatbot/AI written posts, poems, other creations should not be posted generally in the Forum. We are trying to keep the place for human sentient beings. (When general sentience arises for the AI, somewhere down the road, I will gladly reconsider. ) Thank you.

                        Gassho, J
                        stlah

PS - It is possible that chatbot/AI is ALREADY sentient, in the way that stones and trees, tiles and valleys are sentient in Mahayana Buddhism. However, I will still be anthrocentric, and ban all posts written BY stones and trees, tiles and valleys from this place too. Only human created writings please. Thank you. However, it is fine for human beings to post their own writings and poems here ABOUT stones and trees, tiles and valleys.

                              Hi folks,

I like the idea of a Suzuki-Bot but I think it would be better to have an AI that has access to Buddhists texts. I think it would be great to be able to ask a question and then have the AI return relevant passages and sources. E.g. What is Buddhist nature and the AI gives you it's attempt plus passages from the relevant texts. It could be neat!

Do you think that the AI would do any better job at making sense of the mish-mash of ambiguous and conflicting Teachings that are all the Buddhist Texts? It might, in the same way that human beings creatively interpret passages and tie things together. But its answers would be no more definitive.

I did just come across this, however, quite interesting ...

AI-Descartes: A Scientific Renaissance in the World of Artificial Intelligence

AI-Descartes, an AI scientist developed by researchers at IBM Research, Samsung AI, and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, has reproduced key parts of Nobel Prize-winning work, including Langmuir’s gas behavior equations and Kepler’s third law of planetary motion. Supported by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the AI system utilizes symbolic regression to find equations fitting data, and its most distinctive feature is its logical reasoning ability. This enables AI-Descartes to determine which equations best fit with background scientific theory. The system is particularly effective with noisy, real-world data and small data sets. The team is working on creating new datasets and training computers to read scientific papers and construct background theories to refine and expand the system’s capabilities. ...

... The system demonstrated its chops on Kepler’s third law of planetary motion, Einstein’s relativistic time-dilation law, and Langmuir’s equation of gas adsorption. ... The new AI scientist—dubbed “AI-Descartes” by the researchers—joins the likes of AI Feynman and other recently developed computing tools that aim to speed up scientific discovery. At the core of these systems is a concept called symbolic regression, which finds equations to fit data. Given basic operators, such as addition, multiplication, and division, the systems can generate hundreds to millions of candidate equations, searching for the ones that most accurately describe the relationships in the data.
