    ARTS: Tricycle monthly haiku challenge

    Hi all

Each month, Clark Strand, a former Soto Zen monk and haiku writer, posts a haiku challenge at Tricycle. Anyone is free to submit entries and I think there is a Facebook group around this also.

Clark is one of the few English Language Haiku (ELH) poets who stick to the 5-7-5 syllable format but that is good news for those of you who also do that.

The season word challenge for this month (March 2023) is 'roof leak'

    the early spring grasses grow
    a little more green

          That's great!

Just to say that Clark (who is a former Zen monk) is very strict on 5-7-5 syllables. In western haiku in general this is less the case, since Japanese sound units (on or morae) do not correspond exactly to western syllables, often being shorter.
