Announcement: Parinirvana Memorial & Special Zazenkai
Thank you for these instructions on the home ceremony. This looks lovely. I am planning on doing this with my family, and will be sitting the zazenkai this weekend.
I used to be a cook in fancy restaurants. When new folks asked why we did certain things, we used say, “because that’s how a bunch of old dead French guys did it!”.
All sing together now (from Fiddler on the Roof) ... “Tradition!!!”
Of course it could be a very powerful Zen Mudra or something. (I just like any excuse to break out in song like a fool )
Thank you so much Jundo, Fugen and the rest of the Sangha for the opportunity to participate once again in a Paranirvana ceremony.
Even if I will be able to just watch the event in one way mode, it´s really exciting for me to know that I am, in certain extent, being one with the sangha.

I have a question regarding the holding of the paper during the at home ceremony? Is there a special significance to this?
Thank you in advance.

Ya know, in Buddhism, there is always someone who has given some mysterious interpretation to everything. For example, I bet you that some would say that the 3 Fingers showing represent "Buddha, Dharma, Sangha". Maybe the 2 fingers inside represent "Form" and "Emptiness". But that's just folks with too much time on their hands to think up all this "significance".
I believe it is just being respectful, putting us in a solemn mindset. Ya could hold em lick an old pair of socks of course.
