Hi Mark,
Oh, it is most certainly a race, a challenge, a competition. This kind ...
Shikantaza “Just Sitting” is an unusual way of meditation, and might be compared to running a long distance foot race in a most unusual way. (Follow this link) ...
Hang in there! Though there is no where else to go and you are already Buddha ... you are all getting closer, making progress, better and better toward becoming Buddha with each step.
Funny how that works.

Maybe "challenge" is the wrong term for this thread. Challenge connotates competition. I use it as a simple reminder to sit if possible, not letting laziness get in the way. Just a thought.

Keep it going, keep it going ... don't give up, strive hard, life and death are the Great Matter ... and the prize at the end of the road is Buddhahood!
Going it keeping, Going it keeping ... although no place to go, can go or in need of going, as the very road -is- Buddha beyond all life and death, the prize awarded in every step!
Which is the right way of seeing the race? Answer: YES!

...Yes, try to sit everyday, but if you become too comfortable sitting...get up and do something else. If you find yourself trying to last as long as you can...get up and do something else. It is possible to get attached to anything, even sitting. If you are aware of your tendencies, it's great to keep it going as you say, but if you find yourself trying for a "streak" then go do some samu instead...Leave a comment:
