    Do we need sit?

    I want to ask you.

Do we need to sit Zazen?

I sit Zazen at train and after meal and toilet ,for example 1 minutes.

I think very important thing is keep calm.

When I walk my back is straight, when I communicate I always say yes.

I feel more important than sit Zazen.

Also I like to do Sesshin.

But in ordinary day,I need to be more flexible.

How do you think?Let me know your experience.

    Nine bows.
    Gassho.

Do I have to? No. Do I want to? Yes.

I work shifts, so I can not sit the same time each day. A lot of the time, I am always tired and feel drowsy during zazen. But, I have been trying to sit in the morning and evening everyday.

    Deep bows,
    Simon.

Do we need to sit zazen? YES!

And yet zazen is more then just sitting ... zazen is life and everything in it! =)

        Hi Kakunen,

I have come to see Zazen as the timeless "home" that I venture out from each day. Zazen provides a place of stability from which I can go out into the world of red dust to do the work of beings: feeding and caring for the body, doing the work of a householder, father, and husband, caring for other beings I meet. At the end of the day I return home to Zazen before finally letting the body sleep.

This journey from Zazen, to the world, and back to Zazen, repeated day by day, month by month, year by year -- eventually (as Shingen references), all manifests Buddha. And it actually always did, but it was more difficult to see.

        Keep calm, this is Buddha.
Walk with a straight back (and soft front), this is Buddha.
Go to Sesshin, this is Buddha.
Care for your child, this is Buddha.

This is my view. Perhaps it is not correct.

        Gassho,

We do not need to sit Zazen, and yes we do. Zazen is this beyond both "need" and "no need".

Zazen is sitting to know such at the heart of sitting, standing, walking or riding on the train.

Zazen is not simply about "staying calm" and relaxing, although Zazen often helps us be calm even when life is not.

We sit each day because human beings truly do not know how to be still, fulfilled and whole in one simple act without needs, judgments and demands for other things.

Nothing else is Zazen, but Zazen.

            Eat, sleep, walk Zazen.

            Thankyou Jundo, Mr.K, Sekishi

"When you can keep your head when everybody around you is running around screaming and shouting...You probably don't realize the seriousness of the situation."
It is one thing to be calm. It's another to be calm and aware.

Sitting zen, walking zen, eating zen, working zen, laying down zen. Without it we are the chicken with the head cut off . . . or it's head.

When I was at pligrimage, easy to vow at temple. But difficult between temple to temple.

So easy at sitting time, most important thing is ordinary situation.

But Zazen is important! This is my opinion.

I don't need to sit, but when I don't, life gets much, much harder for me and probably for others around me.

I don’t need sitting. Sitting needs me.

I don’t go to zazen to look for peace, joy, equanimity, or compassion.
Peace, joy, equanimity and compassion enter through the swinging door of “my” zazen.

There are a zillion other doorways.
Each opens according to its nature.
My nature is to be alive here and now in a human form.
So I sit. And I go out into the world.

Sitting, going, living, opening doors, train, meals, toilet, it’s all the same.
