I've been attempting to make a hammered wire fibula (fancy word for pin/brooch) and here's what happened on my first three tries: fibulaesmall.jpg
The red-coated copper one is my first try. The wire is way too fine and didn't take hammering well at all (obviously), but it was easy to work and I wanted to learn the moves. The second one was promising, but I used the wrong hammer and left dents everywhere. I thought I had it with the brass one, but I made a measuring error and the pin came up way too short.
I posted this because the whole process reminded me of sewing a rakusu, errors and all! You just learn one step at a time, and keep going. (And try not to throw your tools around in frustration. )
