In mid-February we trapped a feral cat at the local dump. She is extremely skittish and terrified of people, so we didn't expect to be able to do much more than a TNR ("trap, neuter, release"). She has been living in our spare bathroom, and each evening some (or all) of our family sits on the bed in the room next door to read, talk to her, and generally "be friendly humans in her space". Sometimes one of our other cats will come up and be a "feline ambassador". As I've mentioned to Dosho's 11EST sitting group, I also have moved Zafu and Zabuton right outside the door to her room (so we all have been sitting Zazen with her each night). I open her door during sittings (again, so she hears and sees a non-threatening human). She has tolerated all this from a hiding place in her sleeping box, or behind the toilet.
But this weekend: a breakthrough! My son managed to coax her out of her room to play with a toy - in a room with humans in it!
We still do not know exactly what will happen with her (we have four other cats and two dogs - one dog being an ex-hunting dog we're not 100% sure about with a skittish cat), but for now she has a safe and warm home, and is learning to enjoy friendship and fun.

It sure was great to Cat-Zazen last night ... wonderful to see, thank you Sekishi. =)
Nice photo.
We never have snow in Buenos Aires, the last time some light snow fell was in July 9th 2007, and the previous time was about 90 years before.
I had a cat once that looked just like her, Sekishi!! I named him Jori and he was my best friend, wow does that picture ever bring back memories.
Awwww, that is awesome Joyo! Elsie is playful and really cute. She is a tiny, with very short legs. Combined with superpoof hair, she is most unusual looking, but in a striking way.
Name sequence was: Little Cat, shortened to LC, expanded to Elsie. ^_^
Also, I wanted to clarify, even if we end up not providing her "forever home", she will not go back to the wild. We will work through friends, family, and the local animal rescue group should we need to place her, but we are ever more optimistic that she can stay with us.
