The Third of the 108 Gates Of Dharma Illumination

    Gate Three
We review the Gates by reading the following, placing it in your heart and sleeping on it. Then, tomorrow, live and practice it until evening when you leave a brief comment as to how it affected you.

Delight is a gate of Dharma-illumination; for it is the mind of peace and tranquillity.

One method of exploring the Dharma Gates to deepen our practice is to research and study koans such as:

"Upon seeing the morning star, Gautama became Shakyamuni
Buddha when He was, is and will be awakened to His
TRUE SELF and said, says and will say, “I was, am and will
be enlightened, together with the whole of the great earth
and all its sentient beings, simultaneously.. "

    -Master Keizan's Denkoroku/ Nearman ch. 1

Can you relate this to Gate #3

One poetic response to this question was:

    Delight in the Buddha way
    Is the wellspring of peace
    As the waters of Mind
    Flow clear and bright

Good and Bad... Accepting both without reservations throughout my day, what difference is there?

          delight in all things
          and all things
          become delightful

            Doing “mundane” activities
I vow with all sentient beings
            to drop all separation
flowing with the mountains and rivers of life

It’s so easy to get pulled up by dukkha in our day that we forget to appreciate and delight in the simple reality of the ten thousand things. But Shakyamuni Buddha said that we, the Earth and all sentient beings are illuminated together with him, which reminds me of the Heart Sutra ending which is an expression of this delight and of being already gone to the other shore: Gate, gate, paragate, parasamgate… Bodhi… svaha!

Twice in the koan it refers to past, present, and future tenses while delight is one of those sensations that we mostly only experience while being present. It's unlikely that we will experience enlightenment while thinking about our past or future, though an experience of enlightenment can occur in the past, present, and future.

Getting a rush from this moment and place
                        Delighting in realization
                        And then dropping away.

The koan's repetition of past, present and future tense reminds me that enlightenment is timeless.
