Morning Zazen with Myojin (Weekdays Mon to Friday)

    Hi Sangha,

I'll be sitting on weekday mornings (0500-0530 JST), for those who want a regular and unadorned 25 minute sit.

It'll be the small hours here in Tochigi Prefecture, and a simple practice. Just open the meeting, gassho, and we'll sit from about 5 past the hour until about half past.

I look forward to sitting with you.

    Gassdho

    Hello Myojin
    Could I clarify something please?
5:00 am in Japan, is 10:00 pm in Greece.

At the end of your message there is a time indicated as 8:00 pm (see screenshot please). I can't understand what does this 8:00 pm refers to.

I am asking because if it is 8:00 pm in Greece I will be joining you for evening practice :-)

      Hi Maro

Apparently Greece is 7 hours behind Japan, so 0500 here will be 2200 on Sunday evening. I'm not sure what's going on with the screenshot, it seems to be using a different location. I see 05:00 and 05:30 at my end.

The room isn't set up yet, but we can start using it as soon as it is, so please bear with us in the meantime.

The Zoom SSR is always open. So, you can simply join and host your sit at the scheduled time

          Hello there,
I have added the sit to the calendar. Please be aware that Monday to Friday in Japan means Sunday to Thursday in Europe and US? (Timezone wise).
Please have a look at the Practice Calendar for the hopefully right time.

@Myojin, thank you or taking up this responsibility. Please let me know if you change it, or if you can foresee that you will miss hosting a day.
We are trying our best to see that everything on the calendar is really happening and we don't end up with dates, where no host shows up.
(Not saying you are, but we've been there in the past).

          Gassho,
          Kotei sat/lah today.

Thanks Kotei for setting this up. I’m hoping not to run into too many hiccups but let’s see how it goes.

There will inevitably be occasional days when I can’t make it. Presumably is better to post her in advance in such cases?

Yes, I think it good to post here, when you can't make it. I'll subscribe to this thread and catch it, so I can edit the calendar.
When you have some regulars sitting together, it's no big deal, as relationships form and they would take over anyways.
But if there is a scheduled sit in the calendar, someone needs to be there to welcome folks and sit together.

Kotei All went well for the first sit with three of us participating. Could you however check the settings for name changes while in the room? Somehow there didn't seem to be an option.

I've adjusted in my account now, but it might be useful in future.

Thanks to my two zazen companions, I hope to see you again soon.

                    Wonderful!
Yes , we have disabled the option to change names while in the room. We've had some trouble with misbehaving zoom trolls and in order to being able to manage such situation, we need to keep them from constantly automatically renaming.

Understood. In any case the problem should be amended from my end now. I wear a number of hats and sometimes forget which one I'm wearing, perhaps I need to look in a mirror more often.

                        Dear all,

The first weeks sittings completed without any major issues, thanks for those who'e attended.

Just knowing that people are waiting for me to come in and start the sitting is a pretty good incentive to sit longer and at a fixed time.

I've just been onto the zoom app and adjusted my sound settings to musician mode which turns off noise cancellation, so we should ll be able to hear the bells from now, as long as I remember to toggle it on at the start of each meeting. Just let me know if the sound of the air-conditioner is too loud or something.

Thanks again, and have a good weekend.

                          Dear all,

This mornings zazen is a bit touch and go and I will likely have to cancel. Our son is wide awake after coughing all night so it falls to me to do early morning play time.

Apologies in advance, but if by some chance I am able to I wil sit at the alloted time then I will, but chances are I won't be available.

Hopefully we'll be back to normal tomorrow.

                            Dear Myojin,

No need to apologize at all — this is a precious opportunity for extra care and presence with your son. This too is practice.

I understand you completely, as I’m a father as well. Nights with coughing and early morning playtime are also part of the Way.

I will sit at our usual time, as if we are sitting together, and I hope we meet again in the same “room” tomorrow.

Wishing your little one a quick recovery.

                            Gassho,

Kanshin, if you have a bell and can use it, and Myojin can't be there, and there's others joiining, do not hesitate to keep the time and strike the bell for the beginning and ending of zazen! It would be very helpful!
