Training for Monthly Treeleaf Zazenkai Long Ceremony

Dear Ino, taking it to the next level!

Our Monthly 4-Hour Zazenkai has the following main differences from the Weekly 90-Minute Zazenkai:
    • The Heart Sutra is in Japanese, Hannya Shingyo

Recital of the Identity of Relative and Absolute (Sandokai) in English, with its particular melody

3 Bells between Hannya Shingyo and Sandokai accompanying the movements of the Doshi to the Altar

Slight difference in the Eko Recital to mention the Sandokai

Verses to Open and Close the Sutras

      Metta Verses
The Kirigami or, detailed procedure for ino service, can be found in our Ino Chant Book, available as a pdf here:

The entire long service procedure for the chant leader (ino) is also available as a video here:

Note that our semi-irreverent Japanese pronunciation guide to the Hannya Shingyo is here:

Just for reference, the melody for the Sandokai (Identity of Relative and Absolute) in English which we chant was developed by the great Bernie Glassman Roshi of the White Plum, loosely inspired by the first few opening bars of Fiddler on the Roof!

I understand that he wished to have something more appropriate to the cadence of English than the traditional Japanese style, heard in the first few minutes here, rather tricky to chant, and to match with the English wording and syllable breaks:
