Re: September 3rd, 2011 Treeleaf Weekly Zazenkai

Thank you for the Zazenkai, as we begin Ango and Jukai preparation. All my thouights and prayers are with everyone who sits.

Fugen, one thing...when you were away from your headset doing the various chants, I could hardly hear you even with the volume turned up all the way.

    Gassho,

I notice similar challenges when Shohei did it last week and why Jundo is normally very clear. Then I thought that he probably has the zendo in Tsukuba all wired for proper acoustics...or maybe a wireless mic. Then I started to think if maybe we should get wireless microphones for you guys as well. Then I wondered why my incense was burning so strangely. Then...then...

Then I realized I am supposed to be sitting shikantaza and not all mulling over all this other stuff.

Once again...it was perfect and I am truly grateful for the practice of all our priests. So very kind of you all to give of yourselves for our practice.

            Deep bows,

            Shawn

Yeah Shawn, exactly it! I used the default macbook mic and cam so while okay if you are not facing the mic it sounds terrible. In Fugen's case its headphone mic designed to only pick up sound in close proximity and cancel out others (actually my macbook does that too). So proper external mic would fix the sound issue.

Hah, no! We are very low tech. Just a $30 computer cam from the local electronics store. Yes, I did spring for a good microphone (connected to the computer by USV), but it also fails once in awhile ... explaining all our sometime "silent sittings!" ops: That and the laptops I use for the netcast, which can sometimes be overworked and less than cooperative!

Very low budget operation, this Treeleaf.

I got a little lost on the chanting, but it's all good. Thanks for a great start to Ango.
