March 8th-9th Treeleaf Weekly Zazenkai - Plum Blossoms

Master Tiantong’s first phrase of midwinter:

    tsuku.jpg

Old plum tree bent and gnarled
all at once opens one blossom, two blossoms,
three, four, five blossoms, uncountable blossoms,
    not proud of purity,
    not proud of fragrance;
    spreading, becoming spring,
    blowing over grass and trees,
[like balding heads of patch-robed monks].
Whirling, quickly changing into wild wind, stormy rain,
falling, snow all over the earth.
The old plum tree is boundless.
A hard cold rubs the nostrils.

PS - There is no "wrong" or "right" in Zazen ... yet here is a little explanation of the "right" times to Bow (A Koan) ...

Chant Book is here for those who wish to join in: CHANT BOOK LINK

The other video I mention on Zendo decorum is this one, from our "Always Beginners" video Series:

Sit-a-Long with Jundo: Zazen for Beginners (12) - Basic Zendo Decorum At Home
Some basic decorum and procedures for entering and sitting in your Zendo at home. Also, some instructions on Kinhin "Walking Zazen". Yuriko the cat stops by to help us too. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJ3LvIzX0I0 Remember: recording ends soon after the beginning bells; a sitting time of 15 minutes to 35

I also recommend a little Talk on why small rituals and procedures are so cherished in the Zendo:

        Thank you everyone!
Spring around the corner brought the scent and beauty of the plum blossoms into my garden.

Such a joy to be together every week. Thank you to everyone making the effort to attend.
It was raining heavily outside and the sound of rain on the rooftops filled the room, and it mixed with the sounds in Tsukuba, as we all sat zazen.

Thank you everyone. I sat with you this morning.

All this talk of Spring and cherry blossoms, today while I sat we had snow squalls out side my window.

I sat with this one the other day. I have a plum blossom incense burner on my altar. I bought it because it was pretty, and put it on my altar because that's where I burn incense now; now, it has a deeper meaning.
