August 11-12th Treeleaf Weekly Zazenkai - Shikantaza: The Medicine for Desire

Today's sittings are goalless, one-pointed ... but not pointless ...

    Dear All,

Please sit our Treeleaf Zazenkai for 90 minutes with Zazen, Heart Sutra and more:

10am Japan Saturday morning, NY 9pm, LA 6pm Friday night, London 2am and Paris 3am Saturday morning, or any time thereafter here:

However, "one way" live sitters are encouraged to come into the Zoom sitting, and just leave the camera and microphone turned off: Join live (with or without a camera & microphone) on Zoom at: TREELEAF Now OR at DIRECT ZOOM LINK, password (if needed): dogen

00:00 – 00:15 CEREMONY (HEART SUTRA in English) and Dedication
    00:15 – 00:45 ZAZEN
    00:45 – 00:55 KINHIN
    00:55 – 01:25 ZAZEN
    01:25 – 01:30 VERSE OF ATONEMENT & FOUR VOWS
01:30 - 01:45(?) Informal Tea Time (All Welcome)

ATTENTION: Everyone, when rising for Kinhin or Ceremonies after Zazen, get up slowly, don't rush, hold something stable, you won't be "late," so TAKE YOUR TIME! Make sure you are careful getting up!

    Gassho, Jundo

PS - There is no "wrong" or "right" in Zazen ... yet here is a little explanation of the "right" times to Bow (A Koan) ...

The other video I mention on Zendo decorum is this one, from our "Always Beginners" video Series:

I also recommend a little Talk on why small rituals and procedures are so cherished in the Zendo:

As I mentioned, it was a big night for me on Friday, as our long time member Daitetsu and his family are visiting Japan. I was hoping that they could come to Zazen, but their train did not allow, so I joined them at the Anime (Animation Song) Bon Dance at Tokyo Kanda Myojin Shrine ...

... featuring members of the top J-Pops girl group in Japan ... AKB-48!

... (can you find us?) ...

... at which AKB48 member and super-star Takahashi Ayane (髙橋彩音) ...

... looked right at me (I swear) and made the Moe Moe Heart Sign ...

... which you can read about here ...

The word Moe can be used to refer to something that is adorable and beautiful, whether for imaginary characters, idols, people, animals, etc. The word ends up having a childish and innocent tone similar to the term kawaii (cute). Kyun is an onomatopoeia that conveys the idea of choking on emotion, twisting the heart, a momentary tightness in the chest caused by powerful feelings. As if she was shooting an arrow through his heart with Moe.
In Akihabara, having an AKB48 girl give you the "Moe Moe Kyun" is something like having Michael Jordan give you his game shoes, and having the Pope bless you when visiting the Vatican, COMBINED ... so much good fortune and I feel blessed!

Takahashi Ayane of AKB48 making Moe Moe Kyun last night ...

For those who do not know AKB48 ...

A fun night with Daitetsu and his family.

        Gassho, J
