Hey Sean,
The gassho can mean many things, we all experience it in our own ways like helping one let go of their ego. Showing respect to our fellow beings. Recognizing the Buddha in others.
I have also found it to be a gesture of gratitude to my fellow Sangha member's ... for coming together and walking this path. =)
What does it mean to you?

Gassho means to me going the path of least resistance. For example:
• Fighting the temptation of eating junk food to save my appetite for dinner.
• Taking a moment to pause for a moment of reflection.
• Being vulnerable by opening my heart to others and showing gratitude.
• Stopping to notice unfamiliar patterns to become mindful of.
• Remembering the serenity of The Buddha, when I'm having difficulty regulating my emotions, feeling and temper.
• Taking a moment to show dedication, gratitude and respect to a person or place in this hustle and bustle world.
I didn't eat chips last night while out being a bodhisattva. The Mrs. was preparing dinner while I was looking for a homeless man to do "shoe repair" on. His boot fell apart so I was looking for him in Osborne Village while she made dinner. I had to drop my things off, look for duct tape, and search the village for him.
Patience paid off, I didn't eat the chips in the supermarket. I couldn't find the man, so I came home to homemade fries instead.

Very nice ... a gassho can manifest itself in so many positive ways, benefiting not only us, but ALL sentient beings. Also, the gassho can help not only on the path of "least" resistance, but also the path of "substantial" resistance. It too can help us when life is tuff and offering us road blocks. =)

I would like to know more about "substantial" resistance you speak of, Shingen. Before rushing out the door, I decided to gassho :gassho: Now that I'm warming up tea, and preparing cereal, I'm curious to know did you eat breakfast this morning? Love you, bro.

When I refer to "substantial", I am referring that to the opposite of "least" ... you had mentioned in your last post ...
It is true that finding the path of least resistance is a good thing, but this sadly is not always the case. As the Buddha has taught us, life is suffering - the Four Noble Truths (life can have "substantial" resistance") and we must find the path that leads us away from dukkha/suffering. One of the things I feel is the gassho, as it teaches us so much about ourselves if we allow it. =)
Did I eat breakfast today? Yes sir I did ... I had oatmeal with ground flax seeds, hemp hearts, oat milk, and a touch of maple syrup. Yum Yum I even gassho to my oatmeal and say the meal chant, as I feel these actions help plant a seed of gratitude, generosity, and understanding.
