March 21st-22nd Treeleaf Weekly Zazenkai: Nurturing Seeds - Yogacara & Shikantaza?

This week's little talk is about our recommended "Nurturing Seeds" practice as an antidote to everyday anger, frustration and other harmful emotions.
About its Yogacara origination and how Shikantaza and Yogacara might complement or contradict each other.

Thank you Kotei; Nice Zazenkai and I found your talk relating Thích Nhất Hạnh's Nurturing Seeds to Yogacara teachings and how to actualize it into our own practice beautifully presented.

Thank you for the insightful talk Kotei. I enjoyed that you looked at the Yogacara through the viewpoint of shikantaza. Ben Connelly's book, while quite informative, takes a more psychological lens to look at this text. Like your talk, viewing Yogacara from the Soto practice of shikantaza is valuable and helpful. Dropping away of attachment, mindset, etc. clears the way toward liberation, not necessarily relying on the lens of psychology. While psychological viewpoints are helpful, they usually trend toward western mindsets and proclivity.
            Thank you, Kotei!

I’m happy to be reminded of nurturing seeds! I’ve attempted in the past but always just forgot about it, but as my practice progresses I become more and more mindful in everyday life and so I will give it another try.
