    Entropy and Nirvana

So I've been reading a little about thermodynamics and physics in general and basically the second law of thermodynamics states that entropy increases. When I think of Nirvana I always think of the David Byrne lyric from the Talking Heads album fear of music Heaven is a place where nothing ever happens. Now this seems to me a little odd because as the old saying goes nature abhors a vacuum when they talk about entropy increasing it is leading theoretically towards what is called the heat death of the universe which means total Cooling because entropy has increased so much that no systems can operate it's just a cooling-off of the universe so to speak. Maybe somebody with a little more knowledge of physics can shed some light on this but it just got me thinking. Sorry for the rambling nature I'm using my voice activation on my tablet.

    Hi Richard,

You should sit now. Now, right now, at the cutting edge of the birth and death of the universe.

Book of Serenity Case 30 ...

A monk asked Dasui, "When the fire at the end of an aeon rages through and the whole universe is destroyed, is this destroyed, or not?"
    Dasui said, "Destroyed."
The monk said, "Then it goes along with that?"
Dasui said, "It goes along with that."
The monk asked Longji, "When the fire ending the aeon rages through and the whole universe is destroyed, is this destroyed or not?"
    Longji said, "Not destroyed."
The monk said, "Why is it not destroyed?"
Longji said, "Because it is the same as the universe."
Sit beyond and escaping all human judgments of birth and death, start and finish, increase and decrease, temporary and permanent, separate and connected, this and that, near and far, David Byrne ...

Sit through-and-through, right in the raging fires of constant birth and death, starts and finishes, increase and decrease, temporary and permanent, separate and connected, this and that, near and far, David Byrne ... where you cannot escape, no need to escape, no place to run.

    Gassho, J

Ps - No sit, no post please.

So yeah, this thread was mostly started on an over-caffeinated whim...so I just sat, for a few minutes, but it's a start...this ocd stuff is for the birds...Jundo (would you prefer a more formal honorific, or should I keep it casual?), forgive my ADHD, but I tried to change my avatar picture, and I couldn't figure out how...I have it narrowed down to a five year old selfie or a picture of a porcupine (given that we are all imperfect, I think anyone reading this can relate) I will try browsing the site for instructions, but a link would be helpful...

        Greetings, Richard!
Click in Settings in the top-right area of your browser. From that page you will notice "Edit my Profile Picture" and "Edit my Avatar" links on the left toward the bottom. Clicking on each of those bring up dialog boxes to upload pictures or link to online ones if you have a URL.

        Hope that helps

P.S. Here is an older thread where Shingen has instructions:

Here is a walk through in creating or changing your Avatar:

          1. Click on "Settings" in the user profile section.
          2. Scroll down to the "My Settings" box and click "Edit Avatar" in the My Profile section.
          3. Click the "Use Custom Avatar" radio button.
          4. Enter a URL in the Option 1 box if the custom image you wish to use is on a website. Ensure that the image meets the requirements for size listed below the box. If the custom image is stored on your computer, click the "Browse" button in the Option 2 box, select the file and click "Open."
          5. Click "Save Changes" to see the avatar as it will appear on the site. The avatar will appear alongside your user name when you post a message on the site. New avatar's retroactively appear with previous posts.

Q: I cannot upload my picture for my profile because it is too large. How can I re-size my picture to conform to the forums image upload requirements?

A: A quick and easy way to do this is to visit http://shrinkpictures.com/create-avatar/
and follow the instructions given there. Also if you have re-sized your image and are certain it meets the 80 px by 80px @ 72 ppi requirements yet still cannot upload your image you can visit http://imageshack.us or http://www.flickr.com/ or any image hosting service and upload your image to be hosted, for free, there. and use the "Link to off-site Avatar" option

Let me know if you run into any troubles or if you have any questions, please feel free in contacting me anytime.
