A man throws a glass of water on a waterfall.

Yesterday a thought suddenly crossed my mind (It cames like an imagery.) I tried to turn this image into worlds...What does it mean?

"A man throws a glass of water on a waterfall. What is his merit?"

If this is just bullsh*t please delete this topic (I guess I can't).

    Hello Marcos,

Sometimes Zen is referred to as "Selling water by the River".

And to quote Bodhidharma "No Merit".

    We do it anyway.

      Hi Marcos,

A man can only add a glass of himself to the waters of life.

To the fish swimming in his little corner of the ocean, that is the world... he does not need to swim throughout the whole ocean to be complete and whole. The ocean is still him and he is still the ocean.

              Dogen in the Genjo ...

A fish swims in the ocean, and no matter how far it swims there is no end to the water. A bird flies in the sky, and no matter how far it flies there is no end to the air. However, the fish and the bird have never left their elements. When their activity is large their field is large. When their need is small their field is small. Thus, each of them totally covers its full range, and each of them totally experiences its realm. If the bird leaves the air it will die at once. If the fish leaves the water it will die at once. Know that water is life and air is life. The bird is life and the fish is life. Life must be the bird and life must be the fish. You can go further. There is practice-enlightenment which encompasses limited and unlimited life.

p.s. I hope he just throws the water and takes the glass back home.

If he walked a long way to the waterfall carrying the glass, he might have enjoyed the walk. But that aside... once he gets whatever amount of merit, what would he do with it?
If it was me, I'd drink the water and walk back home.
