New York Times ventures into meditation VR

I still have to try this out, but this VR meditation seems worth a look - even though I have my doubts about virtual wilderness sceneries to help one meditate - should meditation not be in the here and now?

I'll suspend my judgement and am curious to know what others think about this.

It is interesting that the New York Times is introducing any form of meditation.

But such relaxing sounds and pretty scenery types of meditation are little more than relaxation tapes, a glass of beer, dentist office waiting room music, a valium for the soul.

Shikantaza, which transcends and flies right through & as all small human judgments of "beauty" and "ugliness" is much more powerful medicine.

It is cool, and it might get someone who otherwise might not try meditation to do so, but unnecessary to me since shikantaza gets right to the core of it.

I watched it now. The sceneries are nice, the guided meditations very short. Still not sure whether it's meditation or a sedative for coping with the stress of life.

I hurry to my cushion now.

I don't know. Chronic stress wears one down. While thus might not be opening the hand of thought it might be the remedy to a particular problem.

I'm not sure why but I felt like writing a poem about this.

            It's nice and all.

But still not better than to just sit with what is, with things as they are. Oh yes, that sounds like Shikantaza

I would think that a "New York Times" meditation would involve sitting on the Zafu leaning slightly left, as Columnist Paul Krugman guides us through Donald Trump's tax return line by line!

              (I couldn't resist)

LOL! No thank you I prefer Shikantaza. Wow some brave journalists there risking prison to publish his tax returns.

I was curious so I downloaded it. It is well done. Short 5 minute guided meditations. Nice scenery. I can see how some might enjoy it. Not my thing though.
