      Kyonin is not advocating alcohol.

Nor are we recommending a particular popcorn brand ...

      The dried shit is okay.

Kokuu that's what I'm talking about! It is engagement with what is; I often want to avoid what "I" dont want and grab onto what I want but zen to me is about being with both things and realizing these preferences are just thoufhts; if we Shikantaza them we can enjoy things without holding too tightly and also weather the storms without trying to run away - seeing through those "unpleasant" experiences and turning those too into our practice ground; its an exceptionally vibrant way to live and give.

Thank you all for the great responses!

I now know that what I'm missing in my quest for the big E is alcohol and popcorn...or to quote Sensei's dharma brother Brad (quoting a yogurt commercial) Zen Wrapped in Kharma, Dipped in Chocolate.

I also really liked/hated the beautiful/creepy video with the dog-pigs talking in circles with robot voices.

My answer at the moment is: Zen is just this. Just this as it is with all it's this-ness. It's also a method/practice for seeing this and it's this-ness.

Thank you again for answering. I can't wait to post another question.

                  Gassho,

As one of the new kids on the block I've been a bit unsure about responding the Heigan's question but something happened to me today which kinda gave me the confidence to share. I've be reading so much these last 3 weeks I felt a bit overwhelmed and some times close to ODing on Zen, so my initial response was

The more I read the less I know
The more I sit the more I begin to understand
                    That is Zen

Then this happened- my FIRST ever speeding ticket in 43 years of driving and riding. A month ago I would have gone ape, lost the plot, went off on one big style. The air would have been blue but not as Jundo sees/not sees it but filed with Anglo Saxon invective's. Cat would have been kicked but we ain't got one and who's gonna kick a 50kg German Sheppard ? Not me for sure !

Today none of the above. Opened letter and slowly realized what it was and felt the anger rising. Stamped on those seedlings, analysed, assessed, reflected. It is what it is. No need to question anyone's parentage, I was driving my responsibility (hey yours as well out there). So acceptance. Pay the fine, all is calm.

                    This is Zen/Not Zen.
                    Or is it ?

                      Hello,

Been a traveler/driver (there is a difference) so long, recalling cops giving warning, instead of prescribed revenue accessing.
                      Sad, really.

Yes. It is. That is an aspect of our Practice.

Now, please sit ... and drive more carefully!
