These recordings are great Shingen, the bell and mokugyo do not interfere with the vocals the way they do in the live feed. I chant with you every day now [emoji846]

While we are on the subject of chanting... Any tips on learning the heart sutra in Japanese? My powers of memorization are not what they once were. Just a line at a time, I suppose. Perhaps I will learn it by the time I retire, if that ever happens...

Awesome, I am glad to know we are chanting together! =)

The Heart Sutra is Japanese is still the monotone continuous beat ... here is a nice example of it. =)

I would do a recording, but I am still practicing/learning and getting better at my pronunciation first before. Don't want to scare anyone. LOL

Lol! I'm sure you sound a lot better than I do, reading it out of the chant book. I would like to recite it from memory, but I find it difficult to memorize a language I do not understand. The above link illustrates well why I would like to learn it though, there is something about the Japanese that lends itself to bringing your whole being into the chant, if that makes any sense. Thanks Shingen!

It sure does make sense ... I too chant the Heart Sutra in Japanese and find the sound to resinate within me, plus I like the fact that it holds a cultural and historical significance too.

Also, I know when I am off key in my chanting when the dogs start to join in with a howl! LOL =)

Thank you for this, Shingen. I too am trying to learn the chanting in Japanese these days.
I've tried it a couple of times before but my tongue opposed to obey It sure takes practice!

I think someone said before that the Dalai Lama just sings Aaaaaa..... with the intent of being the Heart Sutra in a pinch. Likewise Mu! CocaCola can also do the trick. Zen is about transmission from mind to mind without words. Intent is what is important.

It is still very difficult for me, the pain to not all gone, however, better, and I can sit without distraction.

Though I chant regularly prior to morning meditation, I find the practice particularly helpful (calming/stilling) when my mind is scattered and/or I am experiencing emotional disturbances.
