    Feeling like crying

    Hi everyone,

Hope everyone is having a beautiful day and that you had a beautiful weekend.

I wanted to ask something really quick because I am a bit confused and don't know how to feel.

So I was meditating and thoughts were pouring like rain and it was very difficult to go back into the breathing. But from everything that was happening, there was a moment of stillness and in that moment, it hit me and tears started coming out.

It was very brief and quickly everything went back into stillness and then thoughts started to pour like rain again.

My question is, has this happened to anyone? Is it my thoughts wanting my attention and don't know where to go so they tried to come out as a crying form?

I hope I am making sense.

Anyways I wish everyone a beautiful rest of the weekend.

    Gassho,

    Adri

    Hello,

    Recognize, realize, let it go.

    It's a great ride, huh?

      Hi Adri,

Thank you for your question. I like Myosha's answer. I certainly can relate to the moments of stillness and also the moments of difficulty. They are both just moments. Sometimes emotions come up too. Sit with it all.

        Hi Adri,
Yes this happens to me too... I guess I just figured that once you stop living in the past or in the future and sit, if what is in the now is sadness, you cry. Then you let that go too. I don't think there is any reason to follow it and look for hidden meaning.

          Hi Adri,

Where did these thoughts came from and where did they go?

            Hello Adri,

When sad, be sad. When happy, be happy. When frustrated be frustrated. Emotions are like clouds in the sky, they come, they go. Sometimes they are many, sometimes there are few. Either way, just be with what arrises not holding on or pushing away. I hope this helps. =)

Yes, this has happened to me. I just see it as the stillness allowing my body a kind of release in the form of tears. Sometimes I didn't even know I was sad when I started to sit...and then it just bubbles up. Sometimes it makes sense at the time, sometimes later, and sometimes not at all logically. I tend to just trust the process now. There's no need to add anything.

                Hi Adri

Yes, this has happened to me. As Shingen said, when you are happy, be happy, when sad, be sad.

Often we are so busy with life we don't connect with how we are feeling and the stillness of zazen allows emotions to come up. Sometimes I have found myself crying when sitting, sometimes breaking into a silly wide smile for no apparent reason whatsoever. Both are fine and a natural part of life.

                Wishing you a beautiful day.

Yes Isn't it awesome? (not that bland word awesome they use on social media, but the real awesome)
                  And then sit some more.

                  Thank you!

                    Hi Adri,

Yes, I think it happens to most of us. Crying comes naturally because sometimes the mind starts to unclog old feelings and thoughts that are finally starting to be processed.

But our practice is about dropping stuff in order to make room for peace. So whenever you feel like cry, just cry.

Now here's the thing... sometimes I also feel like laughing! Out of the blue. Just like that. I laugh and smile while in zazen. Why? I have no clue. It just happens and it's wonderful. Hope this happens to you too.

Enjoy the tears. They are part of life too

                    Gassho,

Afro, I ask if you know age as I do and I am not
An old man, yet 64 soon to be 65 and I receive folders in the mail asking if I am interested in hearing aids yet I am so young as I sit in solitude wondering if I do zazen right and as some priests will say. It's all good practice so don't be alarmed at tears but think on what is beyond at the still point of the turning world. You will be alright and dought is a natural part of life, so remember just sit and of this you shall find that still point as one finds in a great poem.

                          Wonderful advice Tai Shi,

and a coincidence... I was just reading that poem a few days ago. Something Jundo said was so similar to it and brought it to mind. Here is a bit of it, for the poetry lovers:

At the still point of the turning world (from The Four Quartets)

by T. S. Eliot

                          At the still point of the turning world. Neither flesh nor fleshless;

Neither from nor towards; at the still point, there the dance is,

But neither arrest nor movement. And do not call it fixity,

Where past and future are gathered. Neither movement from nor towards,

Neither ascent nor decline. Except for the point, the still point,

There would be no dance, and there is only the dance.
