I agree, Jinshin, that in the end all this conceptualising and visualising is not helpful.
But I also believe that if we have a kind of a 'visual' or more easily understandable notion of the 'real' world and our perception of it, letting go of that perception also becomes easier.
I like very much how so many things that have been understood in buddhism for thousands of years are more and more scientifically proven. The article in a way supports the discovery a few months back in quantum physics that a a quantum particle takes on characteristics only once it is observed. Without observation, the particle does not have characteristics. In other words, nothing exists until it is observed. And once observation stops, the observed 'thing' ceases to exist. Scientific proof of interdependent co-arising.
If you listen to this researcher talk about her experience -which to me sounds like kensho experience- with a scientific explanation, combined with the knowledge of interdependant co-arising, it does fit together perfectly, doesn't it?
In the end of course, we should let all this go and just sit. But for those of us who don't get it, see no reason, don't believe it, don't trust it, these type of discoveries can actually help to let go in full trust.
As always, a very interesting and fundamental toppic. Thank you Jundo for returning to this with your familliar patiance.
If I may add an interesting way I read somewhere, to explore or make the way our mind works noticeble. If done right it confuses the mind for just a moment and in that moment, when paying attention, a glimpse can be caught. Not a spooky as it sounds dont worry.
Taking the example of Jundos red chair and ant ( sorry Jundo, Ill put it right back ), we could point our finger to the chair and say "thats a red chair" ( both concepts as was explained to us). Then point to the ant and say " a small ant" and so on. Then finally turn your hand an point it to yourself. What is it that you would call out then? Your name? Species? Job or function in life maybe? Those concepts of the mind do not quite cover it do they? Mabe just a deep, silence that is somehow alive, present full of promise and wonder? Give it a try. Love to hear what yall found or did not find. Its just a trick and has little value exept for having a bit of fun with the relative and the absolute.
Just got back from Costco. The kids broke the tv so we had to get another one. It's summer and they should enjoy their video games. I am upset but it was an accident. What can you do? Hope you had a good day.

Thank you. A lovely and worthwhile little exercise.
Certainly helps remind us that there is more to this impermanent life than Costco, games and tv's, something we all need to be reminded of from time to time.
I guess I keep going back to wash your bowl koan. Who do I see when I point at me? What is his name? Not the corpse, but the real name. Where did he come from? Not from Texas. Where did he really come from. What is his age? Not his bodies age. Where is he going? Is it a he or a what? They are all variations of the same question and ultimately give the same answer.
Just connected the new tv to all the other peripherals as best I could for now and will finish tomorrow. Too tired to do it tonight. Goodnight. [emoji1]
It really gives insight as to the idea that whatever you can name, perceive, or in any way conceive in your mind, cannot be you. And at the same time, cannot not be you...

Back to the cushion !

Ugrok, sat today
I think the opposite. Everything has to be you. Including you. [emoji3]
