    Hsin Hsin Ming

    Morning all

I recorded a version of Hsin Hsin Ming (Verses on the Faith Mind or Faith in Mind) attributed to the Third Patriarch, Seng-ts'an (496-606 CE), using this translation by Richard B Clarke.

Those interested in learning more about the work might enjoy these recent podcasts from Upaya:

ps. I would welcome feedback on the recording. Does it sound too flat?

I had the speaker on my phone on full blast and the bell gave me a spook. Hahaha! Otherwise, it's a nice recording, you should do more.

This does not sound flat for my practice, and, in fact, I find this teaching appropriate to my path as one is seeking to understand knowing that apparently understanding is not the point--this helps.

I really enjoyed this. It's not at all flat - it's very clearly read with good pacing and emphasis. Thank you.

Thank you so much Kokuu. The Xin Xin Ming is at the heart of our Way.

The Supreme Way is not difficult
If only you do not pick and choose.
            Neither love nor hate,
            And you will clearly understand.

... words I and so many LOVE SO!

If it helps a bit, here is more about the Xin Xin Ming than you probably need to know.

I like Clarke's translation very much.

                    Kokuu,

Thank you for this recording of Hsin Hsin Ming. I listened using my headphones and it was not flat at all. Your tone of voice and modulation are quite pleasant. The rhythm and tempo are right on, not too fast and not to slow. Please continue with your fine recordings. I find that it’s just what I need after a stressful day in dukkha.

Thank you Jundo for the additional information regarding Xin Xin Ming.

                    Deep bows

Thank you all for the feedback. Because my energy was pretty low this morning I was worried it might seem flat but I promised to read more for Lee.

Thank you for the extra information, Jundo. I love this text and have ordered a book by Sheng Yen on it although probably didn't need to looking at that link!

If anyone has suggestions for other texts to read (preferably old traditional ones which are less worrysome in terms of copyright) then please let me know. Song of the Grass Hut Hermitage is an obvious next one.

                            Kokuu,
                            This is indeed marvelous!!!

Have you thought of reading any diaries of British sea captains from the spice trade or East India routes in the 18th century? no - actually Burton's diaries from travels in Arabia or Africa - think this soundtrack would need a film to accompany it....!

                            Thank you so much!

                            Deep bows
