Master Dungshan asked Yiin-chii, "Where are you coming from?"

Yiinchii replied, "I've been wandering about in the mountains."

"Which mountain did you stay on?" the master asked.

"I didn't stay on any particular mountain," Yun-chu answered.

The master said, "Is that so? Have you wandered about on every single mountain in the whole country?"

Yun-chii said, "No, not really."

The master said, "In that case, you must have found a special pathway by which to enter the mountains."

Yun-chu replied, "No, I didn't find any such pathway."

The master asked, "If you didn't find such a pathway, then how have you come here to see this old monk?"

"If I had found such a pathway, then there would be a mountain standing between us," Yiin-chii replied.

The master said, "From now on, a thousand people, or even ten thousand people, will not tie Yiin-chu down to one spot."
