Guest repliedThis post has got me thinking a lot lately about some folks in my life who are struggling through some very difficult circumstances. 5 people dealing with diagnosis of cancer 3 of which are terminal. A good friend who's wife is leaving him and two young kids for another man. My own mother left my dad just 3 weeks ago after 35 years. A father who's two year old son passed away which preceded a divorce. Many personal issues. This list goes on and on and so it does for all of us.
I rewatched Rev Daiho Hilberts talk from back in March. In it he describes 3 assumptions that regular socialization gives rise to. Those are predictability, safety and fairness. What happens to ones world view when one or all of these assumptions are turned upside down and how does one live. Life is not always predictable or fair. Life is not always safe.
"Even though these experiences we face in life are not always so pleasant - whether good or bad, easy or not so easy, we should try and be grateful and accepting of the wonderful opportunities … as they are some of the best teachers. =)" - Shingen

Sat today.
First off my heart goes out to you, your friends, and your Mom and Dad. I know all too well of these situations. My Mom and Dad are divorced as well; my Dad died this year; my mother fought the battle with breast cancer and happy to say, she won; true friends that hold dear places in my heart were taken from this world too early.
Like everything in life there needs to be balance ... at times life holds such joy and at other times great sadness. But when I look back at the hardships in my life ... the true constants that were always there ... gratitude and acceptance. For me, these constants are the anchor in ruff seas keeping me safe as I ride the tides of life.
My granny told me once that sometimes when we endure suffering we are doing it for the people who can't endure it themselves. That we face hardship so that we may learn and share the lessons learned so others may not have to face such grief.
I am happy to know that the sharing of my experiences in life and the lessons that I have learned are helping others for the better. =)

With the warm rays of the sun on my face, the snow capped mountains, tears on my cheek … I let go, I accepted life just as it was … in that present moment I felt the same gratitude and acceptance that the trees have for the mountains and the mountains for the sky.
Thank you so much for this beautiful teaching.
Troubles never end. So glad your daughter is doing ok!
Wishing for all to find such equanimity in the midst of their struggles.

Shingen,
thank you for sharing this and much metta to you, your daughter and all of your family.
In reading the precepts, I found this.
To catch the eye of a person, to turn our mind, the window glass for luminosity needs not to be clean, and the sky makes the best sun effects when clouded.
Who would notice or be grateful for a blazing sun from clear blue skies? Too often, me not.
Thank you.
Gassho,
Danny
