Lovely!Thank you, Onken, for linking to James' article.

I also recommend Red Pines' translation for the accompanying text and notes throughout which explain about the accompanying history and meaning.

Thank you for posting this. I have just finished the Red Pine commentary and I am now on Sheng Yen's. Both have such wonderful insights.

                Heart Sutra Article

Thank you for posting. When reading Buddhist texts I often find myself looking up "non-English" words for their meaning. I like his translation because it was written in plain English which allowed me to enjoy the flow of the text and ponder its meaning with out consulting Google.

Hello, thank you for this article. I have to admit, I still don't get much of the meaning of the Heart Sutra. What I do understand is very beautiful though.

Thank you Onken for the link. I found it very interesting. Now I can try and memorise the Heart Sutra and include it into my practice.

Let me also mention this, which should be coming out soon from Tanahashi Sensei, the great translator ...

The Heart Sutra: A Comprehensive Guide to the Classic of Mahayana Buddhism Hardcover by Kazuaki Tanahashi

Kazuaki Tanahashi's guide to the Heart Sutra is the result of a life spent working with it and living it. He outlines the history and meaning and then analyzes the text line by line in its various forms (Sanskrit, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tibetan, Mongolian, and various key English translations), providing a deeper understanding of the history and etymology of the elusive words than is generally available to the nonspecialist, yet with a clear emphasis on the relevance of the text to practice. It includes a fresh, modern translation of the text by the author and Roshi Joan Halifax.
