    Too Busy

    This morning I'm feeling resistant: "I'm too busy to sit, there's so much to get done today."

    Then I thought... I could spend my day working while burdened with thoughts of "I'm too busy" or I could take 20 minutes to sit zazen and then work unhindered. Time to go sit.

        I'm right there with you sir. May we all make the time to sit for the sake of sitting.

                I saw a meme somewhere that said: "You should meditate 20 minutes a day, unless you are too busy....then you should meditate for an hour".

                  Please take my words with a big grain of salt. I know nothing. Wisdom is only found in our whole-hearted practice together.

                    One thing I've noticed is that sometimes sitting seems to open up time a bit, so that it doesn't feel quite so crowded. The frantic, grasping, whirling dervish that is my mind takes up so much energy and time. When that quiets down, even a little bit, it can feel like I have all the time in the world. Not that it lasts, but it helps clarify how much 'too busy' is just a flavor of the moment, as tenuous and directionless as little dust devils stirred up in the wind. The sky is unmoved and dust settles all by itself.

                      Hi Dan,

                      The mind hates to sit sometimes. It often happens to me that I find myself not wanting to sit because "I'm too busy" or "This PC game is awesome, maybe one more level".

                      But zazen is the core of our practice. It's like breathing. So when I discover I am making excuses for not sitting, that's when I do it the most and a little longer.

                      After the first few minutes I'm at peace again and the sitting goes as usual.

                      So yes, when busy and short of time, sit for an hour!

                      Gassho,

                      Kyonin

                        Yes! I know that pushing it off won't help anything, so it is best to just sit and live unimpeded!

                        Gassho,

                        Look upon the world as a bubble,
                        regard it as a mirage;
                        who thus perceives the world,
                        him Mara, the king of death, does not see.
