    Buddhism and school

    Hi.

As i sat there last friday listening to how the reviewboard totally slaughtered every "forskningsansats" (something like "researchattempt", you write down what you want to research about and how) i felt there was no way they were going to let mine pass.

When the day was almost over, they came to mine, and said they were looking forward to it. I was somewhat shocked, i had not expected that...
so now i need to find text relating to school, training and teacher/teaching in buddhism as im writing about eastern philosophies and the swedish schoolsystem.
And i thought about you guys.

I'd like references to as many buddhist texts as possible about teaching/teacher behaviour, training or anything you think can be of any help

Many thanks and may the force be with you

    Re: Buddhism and school

I'm not too well read with regard to sutras, but a couple better known ones that come to mind are:

The Kalama Sutra: in which the Buddha is approached by concerned individuals that are confused by conflicting Brahmin teachings (each Brahmin variant claiming to be the one and only 'truth'). The Buddha then proceeds to give his famous talk about the importance of free inquiry.

The Malunkyaputta Sutta: In which the Buddha compares his role as a teacher to that of a surgeon trying to remove a poison arrow from a stricken man.

Also, consider reading the Dhammapada, it is a wonderful collection of Buddha verses on just about everything.

Those are the few that come to mind for me. I'm sure there are many many more. I hope that helps.

    Cheers,

          Hi Filur,

I am not sure that I can help you. There are many sections of the Shobogenzo about the training of monks in a monastery, but I cannot think of anything on general education in a school. Can you be more specific?
