I forgot to mention that I did participate in the home ceremony. I just moved and I don't have any printer ink, so I drew a picture of the reclining Buddha and set it among photos of my grandpa and great grandma. I was attempting to be discrete: no one else I live with is Buddhist, and everyone was preparing for a Valentine's Day party, so when I left my altar for a few minutes during the ceremony, my fiance came into the room and cleaned some of it up! He must've thought the incense and candles were to make it smell nice for the guests. I laughed a bit to see that altars are also subject to birth and death!

I will be doing a small ceremony this evening with my family in remembrance of those past.

My wife and I had our at-home ceremony today. She isn't Buddhist, but she liked participating in this beautiful ceremony. We chose items that either belonged to family and friends or reminded us in some way. We have had a small bird ornament hanging in our house for several years now, in honor of a child we miscarried. It was touching to include this little one in our ceremony. Being relatively new to practicing with others, I never really celebrated Buddhist holidays or ceremonies until now. I can't express my gratitude enough for something this beautiful.

I'm sorry I missed the live sitting. I was on the road home for a rare weekend with the family. I will try to sit it Sunday evening. I may make it a hangout on G+ if anyone wants to make it a group thing.

I was moved reading the description of the at-home service. What a beautiful ceremony. I will plan to do this tonight with my family. Also will be sitting the Zazenkai sometime this weekend. Deep bows, Matt J

No no, it does not have to be exactly this evening if another day is better. Our Ancestors will still be there.

Thank you for the update Jundo. Is there a particular significance to the day for the "at home" part? I know Sunday evening would be better for our household this weekend, but I defer to your advice.

    Deep bows,
    Sekishi

Just a reminder ... We will be undertaking the "at home" portion tonight with our kids, with photos of the grandparents and others. I hope many folks will be doing so in their homes.

Also, we have our special Nehan-e Zazenkai tomorrow ...
