      Too sadly true. Thanks for the chuckles of recognition. I too have met a few of each ilk along the way. May they find the root of happiness.
      You know, a good book on gurus, false and true, is Halfway Up the Mountain, by Mariana Caplan.

        Reading some of the reviews, I do note that the book seems to be quite sympathetic to a couple of "authentic" gurus I would question, including Andrew Cohen (no relation), who has been pointed to as a rather abusive character.

        American Guru: A Story of Love, Betrayal and Healing-former students of Andrew Cohen speak out


        It makes me hesitate on the book recommendation. Also, the author describes herself as, not only a researcher, but a spiritual teacher herself.

        I do not mean to judge a book by its cover, however.
