Brave New Old World or Help!

First I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all who make this online sangha possible. I am so glad I joined treeleaf Zendo. I am immersed in going through all the talks and teachings by Taigu and Jundo regarding basics on Zazen, Zen Buddhism. I find myself immersed in a brand new flavor of Buddhism and associated things that I have NO knowledge of. I am wondering if there is anywhere on this site that explains some of the spices in this stew?

For example, what is a rakusu, taku, and all these other wonderful things/traditions I am looking at? ASSUME I know nothing and you are off to a good start.

I don't need a drawn out answer if there is a simple source to point me to

    Thanks

      Hi Clark,

Glad to welcome you here too. I often say something like "We are not an 'online Sangha', just a Sangha that happens to be online".

Like anything new or any new Sangha you visit, there may be many goings on that take awhile to recognize. Besides the beginner's (we are all always beginner's) videos ...

... our little PDF booklet on basic sitting ...

... and some other talks and materials by Taigu and me on basic this and that of Shikantaza and Soto Zen Practice (filed away in the sub-forums here) ...

... we have a book list of suggested reading for folks new to Shikantaza ...

Hi, The following is a recommended book list for our Sangha. It covers a variety of works on Zen, life, “Just Sitting” Shikantaza Zazen, Master Dogen and Buddhism in general. Thank you to all who provided input, and the list is still open to new suggestions and additions. Please email or PM me (Jundo) with any

But more than so, I would suggest TIME AND PATIENCE, lots of SITTING, because though our Way is Timeless, it is true that Rome Was Not Built In A Day.

Oh, and I am not ashamed to say that Wikipedia often is quite adequate on Buddhist topics and helps too!

Thank you for your replies. I appreciate the time. My sitting will have to be punctuated by some research, at least for now.
