Our Friend Bryson Has Passed ...

I am sorry to report that our old friend and Treeleaf Member, the military warrior become a monk, Anshu Tendo Bryson, has passed from this visible world. Bryson was Ordained by Rev. Jinen. Our other friend Branden reports ...
    .
I am heartbroken to receive the news of the passing of my friend, Bryson. He had become a dear friend these past few years, when he came to Japan to practice Zen with my teacher, Jinen Roshi. Over [the years], he practiced Zazen diligently. I watched a man who had spent his life in constant alert mode, soften and find inner peace. I made a video about his temple life. I hope it will remain a beautiful memory of Bryson. I respected him so much, and feel very honoured to have known him
I am in shock right now. My deepest heartfelt condolences to his family.
    Here is that video:

Bryson was also a visitor to Treeleaf in Tsukuba from time to time, such as at our Zazenkai here ...

    .

    .

Let us dedicate all our Sitting and other Practice this week to our Friend.

I just looked again at the little film about Bryson that I posted above, and his practice at Anon-ji with Rev. Jinen, and I recommend it to everyone. A very, very nice and clear explanation of Shikantaza and our Zazen ways. They sit very long there ... Bryson says 10 or 12 hours a day in the film, although I think that is on their Retreat days (maybe most days) ... But long or short, Zazen is the whole universe.

I'm so sad to hear of this and wish I had had the chance to know him as well. I will certainly take the time to watch the video in celebration of his life and practice.
