Slightly longer answer:
Sitting is the realization (bringing to life) of Insight which helps us realize (pierce) and realize (bring to life) Insight in all this life, on and off the cushion.
So, my knowledge of zen and Buddhism is cursory and haphazard. Years ago, when I was first researching Buddhism in general, the idea of vipassana meditation really appealed to me as I have a great deal of inner confusion and turmoil. But I know that labeling of thoughts runs counter to the "just sitting" Dogen style
Now a question for you: What is a googleplex (besides the corporate headquarters of Google Inc.)?

Am I watching my thoughts, or am I watching me watching my thoughts, etc? I am anticipating that the answer here is something like "yes", which means that I might have had an insight!

Are you watching your thoughts watching you watching you watch your thoughts watch watching?
Asking a question like this is a bit like pondering whether you are tasting the the soup our whether you are tasting you tasting the soup. Is the taste in your head, in your tongue or in the broth?
Best just to sit and taste the soup. Just let the soup taste you. Just be soup ... soup souping soup.
Just sit, dropping all such questions ...all the googolplex of questions ... dropping also all the search for answers and insight to the marrow. Just sit, dropping judgments about the experience in the most radical sense, dropping aversions and attractions and all the weighing and rating. As thoughts float into mind, simply don't grab them, play with them or stir them up. If finding oneself doing so nonetheless, simply let them go ... allow them to drift out of mind ... and simply return to sitting.
