I don't live near to King's Lynn but I have visited. It is near to the Norfolk - a pretty part of the east coast here.
Nice to hear your mum has fond memories of the UK.
Meanwhile - it's another beautiful sunny day in the UK - the blossom's out and the frogs have spawned loads of frog's spawn in the garden pond.
Hi Willow!
Are you anywhere near a place called "King's Lynn?" Me Mum  spent several years there as a teenager and still speaks of that time with great fondness. Just curious.
There is actually a wonderful thread by Jundo on how to delve into Dogen:

thanks for that - awesome post by Jundo - guess that's my reading for the next 5 years sorted
I've just started Genjo Koan after watching Taigu's talks - also have a copy of Zuimonki (good you mentioned the book club).
.... but I'm still reading Joko Beck and I guess we'll be starting the Book of Equanimity soon ?!

Hi Shawn - I haven't read any of Shobogenzo yet - was wondering what to do as it is in 4 volumes.
Did you just start with book 1 and begin to work your way through?

The recommendation (and a great one) is to start with "Realizing Genjokoan" by Okamura. The second is to read Dr. Kim's books on Dogen. I am reading one of those now and have to admit they are substantially "heavier" than Okamura Roshi's.

So I recently ordered the Nishijima/Cross translation of the Shobogenzo, Book 4 to complete my set. However, when it arrived this week it also came with Book 3 (which I already have). I emailed the shipper:
Good Afternoon,
Thank you for your order! I did some research and in our listing we have this for our item notes: "paperback book, volume 4, INCLUDES ADDITIONAL BOOK - VOL.3 w/ purchace (2 books, one price), vol. 3 has slight wear to edges and corners, vol.4 is creased down the middle of front cover, cover scuffed, edges and corners are worn/bent.". So it appears that since you ordered book 4 we threw in book 3 for you. Hope that clears everything up. We look forward to shipping you another book sometime soon - thank you
Sincerely,
Corey E.

So if anyone is building up this set and needs book three, please let me know and I'll send it to you (no charge). All I ask is that you really need it and will use it.
