Re: life sucks and Dogen's death poem

Taigu, thanks for the reminder. It's a very to-the-core post. Life plays itself and we paly our made up roles as we are supposed to, the best we can or know how; then, at the end of the day, we tally the sheet and cry or smile as we crash or soar. It's all so fleeting and unreal but it does not feel made up. Humm?

This quote is attributed to Zen master LInji:

There is no stability in the world; it is like a house on fire.
This is not a place where you can stay for a long time.

The murderous demon of impermanence is instantaneous,
it does not chose between the upper and lower classes, the young or old.

If you want to be no different from the Buddhas and Zen masters,
    just do't seek externally.

It is the children we love that we have a harder time objectifying. My heart goes out to good Judo and his wife hoping for the very best for them.

    In gassho,

The fact that life sucks really opens my eyes, I am learning.

In moments where life doesn't suck, I am lulled to a falsely comforting sleep, neglecting to take care of things that become big problems as I slumber, and cause life to suck.

Resistance is pain inducing. Acceptance of what is is relief and freedom. It is OK not to be OK is peace. Not OK to be not OK is knock out everytime.

As my Grandmother lies very ill in hospital and I am unable to see her I was remended of Hongzhi's lovely death poem,

Empty flowers of an illusory dream
                  sixty seven years.
A white bird vanishes in the mist
                  Autumn waters touch the sky.

Re: life sucks and Dogen's death poem

A lot of things in life we attach to. A lot of these things cause suffering, such as being a miser, or ipods, or relationships that go wrong. Our practice is letting go of some of that stuff, and being interested in other stuff, like moons and sunsets, relationships that can never be wrong, or figuring out how to survive in the midst of a crisis.

                    One version:

                    Life is suffering.

The origin of suffering is attachment.

The cessation of suffering is attainable.

The path to the cessation of suffering.

Just going to edit my last post. Moons and sunsets are too big. I should have said pebbles and foot steps.

Losing stuff sucks. Some stuff more then others. ie. Losing an ipod is not such a big deal.
