I think Shawn said he's bringing an old razor and travel iron.
So I have something similar to this (no steam though ). If steam is critical I can look to see what I can find. I bought it for the portability but ended up using my industrial iron because I missed the steam function.
And this is similar to the straight razor I was planning on bringing:
I'll be arriving to Brussels the 27th at 8:55 am. Plenty of time for logistics .
I'll bring zafu, sleeping bag and material for the rakusu. I have a Buddha statue, not very impressive, one of those industrial things made with epoxy. Let me know if it's needed.
A question for Taigu: Should I bring the whole fabric so we'll cut it there, or do I better bring the pieces already cut?
I come, despite stuff for myself (bench, zabuton, sleeping bag, clothes etc etc etc) I can bring
- the candles (standard white candles, about 2 cm diameter), 4 are sufficient ? But no candle holders
- incense
- I have no original wooden clappers but I can bring a good replacement with almost same sound, please let me know
- I can bring a tiny buddhy (4 cm) if size doesnt matter
I come via train and should be right in the abbey at 27th, about 3 pm. I need to catch my train on 30th, so I leave this day 3:30 pm latest
My own Zafu and Zabuton
My own chant book
My own Oryoki set
Everything I need for Tokudo (Kesa almost finished!)
Small mocogyo drum
Some incense
Inken bell
Sand for incense bowls
Two small offering cups in brass ... can function as incense bowls
I can bring my Buddha statue also, but it is in the Thai style. Shall I bring it?
For the sewing, Taigu, should we bring new material so we can start a new rakusu during the retreat? Have a kesa going on but more than happy to start a new rakusu.
I will bring:
- Oryoki set
- Zafu/Zabuton
- Sleeping bag
- Warm clothes
- Fake orchid
- Small mokugyo
- Straight Razor
- Lots and lots of money
- Laptop (with offline video & audio recording capabilities)
- External Microphone for mobility.
- Sewing stuffs (needles, thread, material)
- Travel Iron (my new best friend)
- Flashlight (late night trips to the loo)
Please let me know if there is anything else I can bring. (Incense maybe?)
I want everybody to use this thread as from now.
Please Jinyu feel free to join at anytime when-if you feel better.
For now we have to pretend Jinyu won't be with us ( we wish he would) but because we haven't heard of him, we need to move on.
Therefore:
Bring oryoki if you have one ( we will do the simple procedure we did for Rohatsu)
Bring everything to keep you warm in and out of sitting
extra blankets, zafuton and zafu please! (better to have plenty than to lack a few)
we need a small buddha statue, two candle holders and 4 white candles, a nice flower for the altar too (orchid)
we also need a fee incense bowls for two extra altars, Jizo and Kannon
If you have a han , wood struck to let people know about zazen, please bring it.
If you have an hand bell for waking people, bring it.
Bring mokugyo and drum if you can ( i cannot if i travel by train )
i need an old razor with a blade for Tokudo and Jukai
we need clappers in wood for evenings and oryoki
the food will be simple, no fuss.
