An interesting inside joke as part of our Sangha?

    Hey all,

I had an interesting (to me, anyway) idea regarding this whole 'internet sangha's aren't real' thing that's come up.

I know that our Rakusus already have a certain design....but I wonder if maybe we should incorporate a tile into them.

This would be a symbol and a reminder while we practice that our practice truly is, in one sense, as useless as polishing a tile to create a diamond. It could be a useful teaching.

Also, it'd be a sort of insider joke about how we're 'not a real sangha' (not a real diamond, only a tile that no amount of polishing can turn into a real diamond).

Just throwing it out there to see if it sticks. We've sort of both broken a tradition and advanced a tradition already simply by existing - what's one more small 'advance'?

    Hello Chet
is this a variation of a story I know--polishing a tile to make it a mirror?

Maybe putting a computer chip in rakusus affiliated with TL?

      Hi Chet,

This is already part of our tradition. Before being given to the student, the teacher stains the kesa with dots of red or black ink in order to manifest the imperfect within the perfect. The joke is also obvious in the desperate beauty of our work, rakusus sewn by people here are seldom perfect and regular, and they are just perfect in their imperfection.

By the way, do you have any experience of sewing this bib thing?

If not you are kindly invited to express and experience your clowny and clumsy self with needle and thread.

      take care

Oh yeah - mirror, not diamond...

        That's zen brain for ya.

No, I've not yet sewn the bib. Soon. Maybe.

Tiles , diamonds and mirrors, who cares ? What matters is to sew,
          I'm looking forward to that,
