Bonus points if anyone can correctly guess why it's 17.

I'm not very computer literate. Anyone know if there is a tutorial for using skype somewhere?

          Thanks,

            Hi,

It is very easy to download and install ... I do not think it is possible to have a "group video chat" there (only one on one), although you can have an audio conference call.

This should tell you what you need. Just download, have a cheap video camera and a microphone, input the nickname of the person you are trying to call ... and call (then click the button to turn the camera on, or select the option to have it come on immediately in "options/video settings"). Not much more to know.

            http://www.skype.com/help/guides/

You know, living in Japan, with relatives scattered from England to Chicago, I am closer to these folks now via Skype (we share meals every couple of months over the continents, their dinner is our breakfast and such) than ever in my life when we got together once a year if that. Not to mention that it is all FREE if calling Skype to Skype, virtually free if calling to a regular or cell phone domestic or overseas (I used to have $200 a month phone bills when I was courting my wife between Japan and the U.S.). It is a little temperamental depending on the internet connection that day, and the sound quality can be like an old cell phone from the 90's. Otherwise, great system.

And, of course, some of Treeleaf would not be possible without it!

                  Just bumping this up again
We are still sitting this on skype and would welcome anyone who wants to shoot the breeze and share a cup of tea to join in. Shoot Fugen your skype name if you haven't before and then just turn on skype it will be a video-less meeting since that's how it works in skype with more than 2 participants how ever that's not a bad thing either for folks a bit camera shy

There was a kind of plug-in called Festoon wich allow at least 5 people on videoconference. But I don't know if it is still compatible with the new version of Skype.
There is also another free program called oovoo wich allow 6 people on videoconference. http://www.oovoo.com/
And there is also another website, called videoconference.com wich allow a video meeting of 5 or 6 people without any registration. http://www.videoconference.com/

                      Hope it helps

Is this still going on currently? Do people still meet Sundays at 3pm est? Or, has this become a Skype only sort of thing...?

                          Hi.

                          We're still on.
We moved away from the meeting hall because it didn't really support our sittings when having a lot of people and a low bandwidth.
So we moved on to skype and it works out nice.
                          Same thing, different program.

As for the different programs i leave that to those who understands those things (Shohei?  )

And everybody's welcome, just grab something to drink and eat and have an open mind, open heart and a smile.

                          It's all good practice.
