Has anyone read Zen and Material Culture?

    Hi folks,

I was wondering if anyone has read Zen and Material Culture? A link to the book is below.

        Yes.

Also, an interesting related book ...

The Impact of Buddhism on Chinese Material Culture

Both recommended for real Buddhism history wonks only ... but fascinating nonetheless.

Filled with little bits of trivia, such as that the Zen masters' stick and fly whisk started off as ... a back scratcher and fly shooer for old kings.

It was sticky and hot, and there was no AC ...

          Thanks Jundo,

I recently started incorporating some Zen history in my reading. I will see if I can find a copy of "The Impact of Buddhism on Chinese Material Culture" as well.
