    Buying zafu in Japan suggestions?

    Hey all,

Anyone have recommendations for zafu here in Japan? I've purchased two (both filled with Panya Cotton...soba filled ones seem hard to find) on Amazon that have been subpar. Looking for other possible purchasing options and would prefer to buy here instead of buying overseas and having it shipped. Done some googling but haven't had much luck. Any help would be appreciated

    Kind regards,

    -Kyle
I'm sick of following my dreams, man. I'm just going to ask where they're going and hook up with ’em later.

    Hi Kyle,

Sorry, you asked me and I meant to write back.

A good source is this fellow, who is with one of the major, respected "official" Soto supply houses in Japan. He delivers well-made items, even if not always the cheapest. Tommy Yabushita:

      Jundo,

Thanks for replying. I know you're a busy man and didn't want to keep pestering you, I appreciate you taking the time. That's exactly what I was looking for. My lower back and cervical fusions thank you!

I am not a back expert (although I have some twinges lately), but you might also consider alternatives such as the so-called "seiza bench" (which, as you know, is not the torturous Japanese seiza). You can even make such a bench with limited skills with wood. There are also some of the more innovative Zafu designs found here and there online like the "mountain seat," and the like, although they are rather pricey and I have not seen them in Japan.

I actually make seiza benches! I have a few (could donate one to your zendo when I come visit someday!). After this last round of cervical fusion, for whatever reason, the seiza bench has been giving me issues. Got some more healing to do for sure. Appreciate the suggestions!
