    Special Days

I am sorry for this long post. The older I become, the more I value EVERY day, but my question is - particularly within Treeleaf, which special days or festivals or remembrances do we observe and cherish - and when. I know there is Ango and Jukai and Nehan-e. What others do we observe please? And are they the same dates each year, or for example, calculated as the first Friday in February (or some other similar method). I am asking so that these days can be added to my University Chaplaincy diary in advance and then greetings and an explanation will be published near the dates (this reminds people of our practice and of the service provided by the Chaplaincy team. If there is a page where I can find this information already, a link would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi Seiko, not what you asked - in fact the exact opposite- but there is a thread about the holidays we DON’T celebrate in Treeleaf: https://www.treeleaf.org/forums/show...rk-at-Treeleaf

Here is the Sōtō-Shu calendar as well: https://www.sotozen.com/eng/practice/event/index.html

Hope it will help you in some way

Yes, and that same thread also lists several holidays that we do Celebrate:

There is the New Years, marked each year by our first Zazenkai of the Year. We remember our loved ones and friends, and the Buddha and Ancestors who have passed from this world with our Nehan-e in February ... also marked with a Zazenkai. We mark the Buddha's Birthday around each April 8th ... with a Zazenkai. In December, we will Cerebrate the Buddha's Awakening with our two day Rohatsu Retreat. We also have the Full Moon Precepts recommitment ceremony of Ryaku Fusatsu each month ...

And, apart from that, each moment by moment of Zazen and life is our Celebration!
