I have been informed of the passing from this visible world of Rev. Dainei Page Appelbaum, the former Guiding Teacher of the Iowa City Zen Center in the Katagiri Lineage. She was a kind voice, a friend of our Treeleaf Sangha, a support.

Let us dedicate all our sitting and practice to her today.

I know that Dainei saw Treeleaf as an expression of compassion and wisdom. Dainei spoke highly of you as a teacher. She was thankful for your advice on bringing the sangha online, especially as the pandemic grew. The sangha is still meeting online for daily zazen.

I’ve not posted anything for a long time here, but I’ve been involved with Dainei’s Zen group on and off for a while now (I live in Iowa, just not Iowa City). Recently I’ve not been sitting with them, but I am saddened by this news. It’s word that I checked the forum today because I was just thinking that I need to restart my zen practice because I’ve let it lapse for too long and I find this. You will be missed Dainei.
