            Lovely, Kakunen. Thank you. The main Tenzo is a priest, but the kitchen workers are mostly women who work at the temple? Are their families temple danka (檀家 members)?

            Also, chant before eating is very short this time, so not Oryoki. More simple meal.

              The chant is this ... for simple meal ...

              Informal Meal Verses {shokuji no ge 食事偈}
              (Verse Before Eating {shokuzen no ge 食前偈)
              Now as we receive food and drink, {nyaku onjiki ji 若飮食時}
              may all living beings {tōgan shujō 当願衆生}
              take the joy of Zen for food, {zen'etsu i jiki 禅悦為食}
              being filled with delight in the Dharma. {hōki jūman 法喜充満}

              (Verse After Eating {shokugo no ge 食後偈)
              Having finished eating the meal, {hanjiki ikotsu 飯食已訖}
              may all living beings {tōgan shujō 当願衆生}
              be filled with virtue and practice, {tokugyō jūyō 徳行充盈}
              and attain the ten powers (their complete capacity). {jō jisshuriki 成十種力}

                Yesterday I joined cooking school for lay person.(I am kind of guest,as assistant of priest)
                Temple sometimes open to lay person.

                And normally we chant before lunch and dinner,only chant Nyakuonjikiji(Syokuzen no ge and Syokugo no ge)
                Or sometimes we chant Gokan no ge.If we chant all chant of meal time,we have no rest time.

                about Gokan no ge.

                We have so many schedule at monastery(Hokyoji is aiso monastery,same as Toshoji),so impossible to long chant.

                Normally we have long chant at breakfast and Sesshin.If we chant long chant,we spend 1 hour.
                Is it realistic?I shared long chant(Sodo handais僧堂飯台)they spend 40 min or more.

                  I believe the lovely ladies were there for a course, or training as lay people. If I understood well what Kakunen said. [emoji1]

                      The snow, the high trees, the temple, the food. It all looks... so poetic. Thank you for sharing Kakunen, much appreciated
