    What's in a name?

I was watching this video https://www.facebook.com/BuddhistTem...53438619528378 and was curious how our teachers here view this. My given name by Jundo Roshi is my username. But I always sign my posts with my real first name. Should we further honor our Zen names by just using the name received as part of Jukai ? Or is both OK? I come across a few Buddhists from time to time. But mainly here. How do people feel about the view given in this video?

Sorry for going over a little.

Reserving my answer on your question until I can think it over (and take in the input from our priests/Jundo); however, for those who want to watch the video and hear what is said, the question is discussed from 12:47 — 21:35

The teacher speaking in the video is Jay Rinsen Weik, an old friend. When in Rome sit as the Romans sit.

I don't think it so important or, as my dad from the Bronx used to say: "Call me anything ya want, but don't call me late for dinner."

Truly, WHAT IS THE NAME OF OUR ORIGINAL FACE? A rose by any other name. But a name is not as important as who the person is, so a lemon called a "rose" is still bitter!

Around here, if someone uses the Dharma Name, then use the Dharma Name. If someone wants to be called "Bob" then call em Bob (even if their name is Mary). Many Zen teachers use their Dharma Name, others do not so much although sometimes (e.g., Norman Fischer ... who is also Zoketsu).

      Anybody remember this guy?

RIP Redd Foxx. This also reminds me of one of the Rush Hour films:

Thanks, Roshi. And thank you too , Jesse. I didn't think to say what time it was in the video. It just happened to be where I stepped in on the broadcast. I do still try to live the meaning of my Zen name. I just noticed different people doing it different ways and didn't want to be disrespectful of my name or the tradition.

Jundo, thank you for the Redd Foxx memory! However, I now have the theme music to Sanford and Son running through my head on an endless loop...
