Invitation to a day of just Zazen and Kinhin. 09/16/2020 via Zoom

    Hello dear sangha,

Ango is in full speed now and I hope you all are doing fine in your commitments. This is a good time to sit for a little longer and to be with the sangha.

So, in my merry band of Spanish Speaking fellows, Ango began with a bang. Lots of new people came in and now I have even more friends than I ever imagined.

Anyway, after the first week I thought, "well I need to rest at least a full day. I'll sit a mini-Sesshin Antaiji style", where there's only Zazen and Kinhin in 50 and 10 minutes respectively. Since the 16th of September is a holiday here in Mexico, I thought I'd invite people to sit with me expecting no one would join since this kind of Sesshin is really hard core for people who is used to sit for 20 to 25 minutes a day.

I was wrong. Now there are 23 people willing to sit with me! I'll start from 6 AM to 6 PM (Mexico City time) with breaks for eating and rest.

And because it will no longer be a solitary practice, I want to invite Treeleaf to sit with me if possible. I know it's only a holiday in Mexico and the rest of the planet will be busy, but I will be pretty much all day sitting. Please join if you can! I'd be happy to see you all there.

I'll spent the whole day sitting in silence, so there won't be any chanting or dharma talk. However, since there will be some folks new to Kinhin, I'll have to give some instructions in the very first kinhin session.

The schedule is as follows (please note that all times are in Mexico City time):

    6:00h – 6:50h: Zazen
    6:50h – 7:00h: Kinhin
    7:00h – 7:50h: Zazen
7:50h – 9:00h: Breakfast and rest or samu. Offline.
    9:00h – 9:50h: Zazen
    9:50h – 10:00: Kinhin
    10:00h – 10:50: Zazen
    10:50h – 11:00h: Kinhin
    11:00h – 11:50h: Zazen
    11:50h – 12:00h: Kinhin
    12:00h – 12:50h: Zazen
    12:50h – 13:00h: Kinhin
    13:00h – 13:30h Zazen
    13:30h – 16:30h: Lunch and rest. Offline.
    16:30h – 17:00h: Zazen
    17:00h – 17:10h: Kinhin
    17:10h – 18:00h: Zazen

Thank you, if I will be able to, I will be there for a little while (I don't think I have the strength yet to do so much!).

Thank you for organising this. I'll try to join you for 16:30 (22:30 where I live) zazen and stay till the end. I would love to have an opportunity one day to do few days long Shesshin.

I see your time at Antaiji rubbed off on you. I like the idea of “Sesshin without Toys” but unfortunately this is during my work day so I won’t be able to sit any of this. Gassho to the sitters no matter how long or short.

I know, I'm sorry I had to pick this day. But it seems there's a lot of interest so maybe we can do another miniature Sesshin soon.

And yes, I know I am crazy. I miss Antaiji

So I can recreate the experience at home... Except for the magnificent food and Muho's shouts.

                        Gassho,

                          By the way,

In their YouTube channel, Antaiji posted a little NHK feature about Mygen-San, the extraordinaire Tenzo of the temple. He is a nice, wise and charming guy who cooks like the angels. The video is in Japanese, but you can get a sense of daily life in there.

And I think our very own Mr. K is in the video
