Michael Kenna is one of the leading black and white photographers in the world. He's just published a new book, Buddha, which contains 160 photos, mostly of Buddha statues around the world, interspersed with other lovely photos.
I've gotten to know Kenna since I met him last year at an exhibition, and he's a singular photographer who creates his photos on film and in the darkroom with a rare sense of craft. While not a Buddhist, he has long photographed in Asia, and especially in Japan, and explains in the book how he did the Shikoku pilgrimage to 88 temples about 15 years ago, and then started to photograph Buddhas around the world. The book contains photos from more than a dozen countries. It's a lovely book, even if you're not specifically interested in photography.
